Stump Tail Dolly
Lucy Cochran (fiddle) and guitarist Ryan Clackner (guitar) formed Stump Tail Dolly in 2015 only after spending years earning their alt-country bona-fides. Together and apart they have toured, performed or recorded with Bob Wayne, Fifth on the Floor, Shooter Jennings, JD Wilkes, The Legendary Shack Shakers, Red Simpson, Sarah Gayle Meech, The Local Memories, Joe’s Truck Stop, Tyshawn Sorey, and more.
Once they hit the ground running with Stump Tail Dolly, Cochran and Clackner wasted no time breaking new ground. Their debut EP, “Americonoclasm”, turned heads with five metalbilly tracks straight from the depths that showed just how heavy a country/metal collaboration can be. In 2017, they added Jamie Garry (bass) and Brian Weinberg (drums) to the lineup and set out to bring Nashville to its knees with the release of their first full-length album, Soundtrack to the Second Civil War, along with lead single “Boogaloo”.
“Metal country” has been around for a while now, but Stump Tail Dolly isn’t just over-distorted southern rock. They fuse country medleys, down-home vocals and haunting fiddle with serious black metal fury. Songs like “I’ve Endured”, “Boogaloo”, and “The Marish Prophet” hook you with rocking grooves, haunting vocals, and lyrics like “Little Jimmy Rattle-boots, watch him do the dumpster dive / Follow along, doing the Boogaloo / Never learned to count past five”. But just as you get comfortable, Stump Tail Dolly shifts into high gear with the most aggressive metal riffs you’ve ever heard accompanied by fiddle. Stump Tail Dolly is not your grandpa’s country, nor your big brother’s heavy metal.
