Ameripolitan Music Awards nominee The Westport Roots Festival is proud to present the Legendary Shack Shakers at the 2017 festival. Hailing from Paducah, Kentucky, the Legendary Shack Shakers buck conventional wisdom of what roots music should be. They call their style “Southern Gothic”, and it is a one-of-a-kind happening. For twenty years, they have filled albums with bottom-heavy and twang-forward tunes that blend country, bluegrass, rockabilly and punk in new and irreverent ways. Their lyrics are uniquely and macabrely Americana – no one can summon visions of Appalachian Baptist revivals and road-weary carnie shows like singer and Southern mythology fanatic JD Wilkes. But it’s the Shack Shaker’s live show that has made them “Legendary.” JD Wilkes – jumping, swinging, honking and plucking – is the frontman, a showman and a madman, and he’s a whiz on the mouth harp and banjo to boot. He and the other shakers of shacks – guitarist Rod Hamdallah, drummer Preston Corn and bassist Fuller Condon – lay down one of the bona fide best live sets in roots music. Their live show is a toe-tapping, life-changing affair. Come catch the Legendary Shack Shakers at the 2017 Westport Roots Festival, where they’ll play songs from their new album “The Southern Surreal” and their other Southern Gothic masterpieces.
