For Fans of: There is No Comparison for The Drunken Cuddle
The Drunken Cuddle, based in Denver, Colorado, is comprised of the key duo Erik Arvoy and Katie Marie Sternig while occasionally joined by the more-than-capable harmonica stylings of Tony Meggitt and call Tony’s Lion’s Lair in Denver homebase.
To begin to describe The Drunken Cuddle is an exercise in futility. The acoustic intensity of Erik’s strumming and his gravelly, deep-voiced vocal is found somewhere between the walls of classic punk rock and a chilling, minor-toned folk singer. Katie secures the rhythm section with her heavy-handed tom strikes amidst rapid-fire snare rolls though she is as sound on her coffee can or pair of spoons.
Erik and Katie both handle vocal duties, both solo and harmony, and have a penchant for crafting a song in that middle ground between punk rock and acoustic folk. When paired with Tony’s talents on the harmonica, you find yourself virtually helpless in describing The Drunken Cuddle. That is the point at which I find myself. Suffice it to say, The Drunken Cuddle are one of the absolute favorites of The Westport Saloon family. They have gone from guests to close friends and have fostered a great fan base and family in Kansas City with their fantastic shows and simply being awesome people.
Westport Roots Festival in May is the place to be if you want to see The Drunken Cuddle and so many more talented artists and bands.
